Oh dear, why these ugly arrows?

Mac users who are reluctantly confronted with Windows from time to time, may want to know how to overcome this design flaw with a registry hack.

On Windows, enter the registry editor and add the key Shell Icons as shown below:

Place a new stylish Shortcut Icon at C:\Users\Public\Pictures\shortcut.ico. You may create it yourself using Adobe Illustrator - important is the transparent background. With an Xcode Tool called Icon Composer on the Mac you bring your work into the right format:

The above registry hack works exactly the same under Windows 10.
